I'm having random engine problems. This morning while driving down the 15 @ 70mph, the Check Engine light and a "Wrench" light came on as well as what feels like 1 or 2 cylinders cutting out. The engine would shake and I would have no power. I pull over, turn the engine off. Restart the car and everything is ok, no lights, no misfires nothing. WTF is going on. Got back on the 15 and about 2 miles later same thing happens, but this time when I restart the car the CEL stays on but it seams to be running fine. Once I got to work and parked it for 10 min. restart it again and everything is A. O. K. This is the third time its done this to me in the last 3 weeks. Any guesses as to WTF is going on. also when I put the car into test mode and check the DTC's i get "NONE" Thanks

First thing to do would be to go to Autozone, Checkers, Pepboys and get the codes read (its free, if they charge you, then move on). The test mode in the dash, as far as I've understood, only tells you the dash is working properly, not much else. You'll need a code reader to read any CEL's. If you're close, then I could help you out. I'm in the Green Valley area.

The weird thing is that the CEL light is no longer on, that would mean there are no DTC's. I would have to look up the history in the PCM. I will be in GVR/ Anthem all day tomorrow and Friday, in fact I go by your Domino's all the time.

I did a little more research on this last night and came to the conclusion that its the electronic throttle. There is a sensor problem with the TB and the PCM not agreeing on where the throttle is and where it should be. This has to be fixed by Ford as the computer has to be reprogrammed and the sensors have to be reset or replaced. This has been brought up before on FocalJet forums.focaljet.com/team-tech/643116-wrench-light.html

Well that sucks if thats the issue, not really sure how the drive by systems work on the focus (Mine and all the SVT's I've played with are cable). Just recently had to replace the TPS on Dom's (the new guy) car because it had similiar issues and the new TPS fixed it. That's why I wondering about the codes. Being an '10, is your car under warrenty still?

Yep, the drive by wire is new to me. The way the system works is, by pushing on the gas pedal, you are only asking the computer to give you more power. The computer takes your request, looks at all of the systems and then decides how much or when you will get that power. This is where the electronic stability control comes in, the computer makes sure you can use the power without loosing control and then gives it to you. Because of this all of the systems and sensors have to be running perfect or the computer gets confused and goes into safe mode or limp mode depending on how far out of spec things are. In my case, if the throttle sensor is telling the computer its at 50% and the computer is saying you should be at 55% then all hell brakes loose and I get to practice my accident avoidance skills as I try to pull over with a dead motor! Then I get to reset all the sensors by turning off the car and restarting it. Nothing quite gets your attention faster then the throttle slamming shut while doing 70 down the 15 in rush hour traffic.

Well all is fixed (I Hope). Took it to Team Ford to have it fixed. They had to replace the entire TB with a new one, the sensors in it are not replaceable. So if you have a DBW TB they are not cheep!. They got the car done in about 3 hrs, and when I got in it to leave the Check Engine light came on, WTF!!!! had to turn around and pull right back in. This time they had know idea what was wrong. In the end they replaced it again and reflashed the ECU. only took me 7 1/2 hrs to get my car back Twice. Thanks again everyone.

Wow, well hopefully its fixed for good.
I'm starting to really dislike some of this new technology, all its doing is adding not needed complexity and expense to new cars now a days. I mean what's wrong with using a simple cable to control air like its been done for the last 80 years?
